Stephen Ministry Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one, confidential, caring Christian ministry by trained lay members of Concordia to people who are hurting because of issues such as divorce, death, illness, financial problems, loss of job, depression, loneliness, or any other crisis situation. The ministry offers extended emotional and spiritual support to another person in a time of need. A Stephen Minister is compassionate, trustworthy, and a good listener. He or she has the ability to maintain confidentiality, has a readiness of spirit to pray with the receiver and offer Christian support, and visits with the hurting person on a regular basis. To become a Stephen Minister, a person must complete a 50-hour Stephen Ministry training course.
