Construction Update - updated May 6, 2008

Dear Concordia Family,

Through God’s grace and your support great things continue to happen here at Concordia! Progress toward the completion of our new sanctuary and cross is becoming ever more apparent as the structures gradually, and visibly, take shape.

I want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this exciting time of expansion at Concordia, and thank you also for your many prayers throughout the process. With God’s blessing and your support we will finish construction activities safely and move in to our new sanctuary in time for Christmas this year! If you are interested in viewing a slideshow of the construction process, simply click the “Construction Slideshow” button below – the changes are exciting!

While our campus is being transformed, we continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of our families. Thus, at this time, traffic patterns will remain the same with the “Pedestrian Safety Zone” in place in the northeast parking lot (in front of the flag poles) to separate moving vehicles and pedestrians. Please click the “Traffic Patterns” button below to view a campus map and current traffic flow patterns.

If you should have any questions regarding construction activities or campus traffic, please contact Concordia’s Executive Director, Greg Styles, at 210-479-1477(ext. 1036) or by email at .

Again thank you for your prayers, support, and commitment to our expansion.

In closing, I’d like to leave you with a few fun-facts regarding the new sanctuary and cross.

God bless you.
Pastor Bill Tucker

  • When complete, the new sanctuary will seat ~1,700 people and can be expanded later to seat ~3,000. This is roughly twice our current seating capacity!
  • Our beautiful cross has reached a height of 111 feet as of this week. Twelve more feet of concrete and it will reach its final towering height of 123 feet!
  • Once complete, we will have the ability to illuminate the cross in any one of 160,000 colors!
  • A total of 16 stained-glass windows will adorn the wall behind the altar. These windows were salvaged from our old church and were designed in-part by Barbara Merkens (Dr. Pastor Guido Merkens’ wife).
  • The sanctuary will include balcony seating – an exciting first for us here on this campus!
  • The flooring in the sanctuary will slope slightly toward the chancel to enhance visibility.
  • There will be a large enclosed narthex just inside the main entrance to house our Grand Central operations and serve as a greeting area.
